Second suport net.

Friend called to see if I can drive her and baby to the hospital for a check-up at 1pm. She conveyed 3 pieces of information.

1. Her husband initially called another colleger.
2. When the other colleger is not available, he arrianged his students in replacement.
3. She called me to see if I can.
4. I had a lunch meeting at 12pm.

Since her husband had different intention and to protect their happiness, I would rather stay out.
I do have things around that.
So my offer is,

if you check with the student and he is not available, I will leave the lunch earlier to drive you there. I offer as a second support net.

This way, I implicitly align with her husband, respect my own plan and also make sure she would be helped at the end.

Last but not least, it is a responsibility to drive a mom with baby. I am not very good driver and what if....

I learned this strategy from a friend.

Of course, if she can not have the student step in, I will help her. This way, she will appreciate my help, not like a free labor.

Respect yourself and then will earn respect from others.
